QA 4 First Aid- anaphylaxis, asthma

The Guide to NQS advises that an assessor may sight staff records which include first aid qualifications, including the roster showing the service has a first aid qualified educator on duty at all times.

The ACECQA Operational Requirements provides the information children's services needs in regards to all qualifications including First Aid. From 2013 along with First Aid training, educators need to have completed training in Anaphylaxis and Asthma. 

Note: If you are completing a qualification such as CHC30113 Certificate in Early Childhood Education and Care or CHC50113 Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care you must have HLTAID004 Provide an emergency first aid response in an education and care setting to be able to complete your course.


QA 4 Ethical Considerations

Standard 4.2 focus is on educators, co-ordinators and staff members are respectful and ethical. Sometimes we forget to be respectful as we try to put our point across. Everyone has a right to be heard but as we allow ourselves to be heard by others we should reflect on our Code of Ethics. The code of ethics reminds us of what is expected in regards to our professional behaviour. We have lots of items on our staff meeting agendas, sometimes to the point of wondering how we will get through it all. It might assist some services to consider discussing sections from the Code of Ethics Brochureto assist with providing a calm and positive atmosphere.
